I've Opened up Shop on Etsy!!!

    Super duper excited to share with everyone that I've opened up shop on Etsy!! My shop is ofcourse named PaintboxPrimitives, and I'm offering all my usual goodies- paintings and collages....mixed media pieces, all done using various elements and methods.
   Right now to start off, I have listed a bunch of 8" x 8" x 1.5" canvases, which can be hung or just stand on a shelf because of the wide width of the frame. I have done most of these with a doll house theme, featuring images of Victorian era children, doll houses, and images that may relate to each piece! I'm looking forward to, and in the midst of working on a few different themed ideas, including some Halloween pieces! I love Halloween....so much fun, and everyone loves a strange and funky piece of Halloween art don't they?!

An Easter Collage Book

 

   After a whiles away, I have created another mini upcycled children's board book! Featuring an Easter theme, this cutie patootie 8 pg book has been all decorated up with various vintage papers, scrapbooking paper tidbits, printed images, and ofcourse embellished with coloured pencils, ink stamped images, and some black ink pen!
  This was so much fun to make!......and after listing on eBay, it has sold, and on its way to it's new home!

HaLLoWeeN TiMe!!

It's May 1st and I'm feeling some Halloween inspiration! I love creating for Halloween as it's my absolute favourite 'holiday' and could do it all year round...but usually wait til about this time of year and then go, go, go all summer long. I've recently listed some art cards on eBay that I've had sitting around so I hope you will take a peek.

Art cards are a fun way to enjoy art as they are small (2.5" x 3.5") and you can easily tuck them away into special little spots like in between displays around your house or office, into a wreath or even an album. I've even been asked to drill holes and add wire hangers which is a terrific idea too! 

I have tons of old antique ledgers and papers which I love to use for my art cards. I also use a lot of printed items and scrap booking papers, but the look of the old stuff can't be beat! It just seems to add a bit more texture and interest! Anyhow, take a peek at these, and you won't be disappointed!

SPRiNGiNG BaCK iNTo iT!!!

    It's Spring time again! Time for fresh and exciting new beginnings...starting off the year on the right foot, full throttle and all 'gung ho' to get back into it!! I've been super busy creating...and with so many ideas floating around my silly head, I've been flitting back and forth between projects. A few I have saved for the PFATT Marketplace for new listings for May, but do have one super cute project listed on eBay right now!

   I have always loved the circus themed stuff and have done related pieces and art cards before so I went with it again, in the form of a small theater type assemblage. A tiny box with a clear plastic window is the main body and holds a vintage pic of some Victorian era kids in their funny costumes!! A french Pierrot inspired gal sits on top surrounded by tissue paper fringe...she is devine! I love this piece and hope you will too! It's great to be back here!

LeT iT SNoW

Well, Halloween time has passed, and Christmas is on it's merry way, so time for some Santa's and snowmen!! I have been busy creating some winter fun in the form of some art cards!

Just a few samples of my freehand drawn and painted art cards! If they are not currently listed on eBay, they will be shortly....so check 'em out!!

Phew!! I've been on a roll! Busy, busy...mostly occupied with making these little collaged 'trinket' boxes, and glass fronted shadowboxes! Once I get started I just can't stop...one right after the next...hee hee!! Nice to be doing something new and different though....for a change! I've sold one on eBay, and three on the PFATT Marketplace already....there are still two available there...so use the link and go take a peek!

What Dreams May Come

So...I was fooling around with some old pictures and decided to digitally add some butterfly images to one of my favourites! This old scene with a Victorian era boy and girl is already so dreamy, like a shot out of the 'Secret Garden' or something, I think. Anyhoo, I added a multitude of different butterfly images in different shapes and sizes....can you count how many?! After printing and mounting onto my usual 2.5" x 3.5" wood piece, I 'tickled' this all over with some Prismacolour pencils and some Walnut Ink Crystals....I even 'drizzled' on some sparkly glaze for a magical sparkly effect! Love it!! I made four of these which are currently for sale on eBay, but would be more than willing to make up some more if needed! Hope you like it!!

A Winter Gift

Sometimes I think of how much we take for granted....things that we as adults, seem to forget as we grow older, get busier, spend less time on things we once used to love doing...I used to love going outside and playing in the snow as a child, building forts, making snow angels, and snowmen on the front yard...and now as an adult, I really just find the snow a nuisance....shovelling, scraping windows even after letting the car warm up for fifteen minutes, not to mention driving in it! Funny how things change, and I easily forget how much it used to make me so happy.I had some hang tags on my work island ready to decorate...the same complimentary tag's I send out to my clients with their packages, when one of my little guy's asked me if he could have one to colour. I obliged, as he love's to draw and colour, and cut and paste...just like mom! He came back to me after a few minute's, and offered me his little creation. This simple hang tag, with a simple juvenile snowman drawn quickly and efficiently ~in order to please mom as soon as possible~ just really reminded me to treasure my own childhood memories of winter.This simple gift, given from the heart of my six year old son, will be cherished.

Last Easter I did a few art cards and sold them on eBay...

This year, I have used the same image and touched it up with some Prismacolor pencils and some sparkly glaze, and placed it into a beautiful antique brass frame!!

PaiNTBoX PRiMiTiVeS

My favourite thing to do is creating Art Cards....you may know them as ACEO's, which is an acronym for Art Cards, Editions & Originals, and these little cuties measure a sweet and standard 2.5" x 3.5". Some cards are referred to as Art Squared, and these measure 4" x 4". 

They are the most practical way of collecting art, as they are just the perfect size...great to prop up on a shelf, framed, in an album, tucked into a wreath or even into a gift card for a friend, or perhaps stacked in piles around the house so you can just pick 'em up at any time...terrific pick me ups when you need a smile!

I love to spend time creating hand painted art cards, but most of my cards and assemblages are created using backgrounds made from layers of antique ledger paper or newspaper....some dating all the way back to 1826! I like to use various repro images and vintage photo reprints of Victorian children! Sometimes I may even add some dimensional items like found objects, old buttons, scraps, beads, ribbon, feathers...you name it! I will always add some age and colour using artist's acrylics, Prismacolor pencils, and or Walnut Ink Crystals, and this gives each piece it's own unique and individual character!
